Auckland Kitchen

A bespoke kitchen and dining space designed with Buhr Bespoke Interiors, where expressed joinery, hand-finished timber and cast concrete make the craft of construction visible.
More Information
Designed in collaboration with Buhr Bespoke Interiors, this kitchen and dining space brings together handmade furniture and bespoke joinery, drawing on the language of Japanese joinery we first explored in our Boathouse project. The pieces sit within an existing interior and are conceived as both furniture and architecture: timber, cast concrete, fluted glass and light, assembled with care.

The teak shelving, the suspended storage and the dining table, fabricated from American Black Walnut, celebrate expressed connections and hand-finished detailing, revealing the logic of their construction rather than concealing it. Working closely with Buhr throughout the process meant that material qualities and fabrication techniques shaped the outcome directly, resulting in a space that feels tactile, considered and calm. The project reflects an ongoing interest in how architects can reconnect with materials and skilled trades, bringing craft back into the centre of contemporary architecture.
